A free Northwoods respite camp in Lake Tomahawk run by the American Legion Department of Wisconsin, with accessible cabins, dining, recreation and physical therapy facilities. Open to Wisconsin residents who are honorably discharged veterans or currently serving members of any branch, along with their spouses or partners and children 18 and under, and to families of the fallen. Stays are completely free, funded by donations; admission is by written application to the camp office ([email protected]).

Trauma-informed grief programming is combined with normal camp activities at Turning Rivers in Campbellsport, Wisconsin, and about 200 children attend each year; the camp is free to families and is American Camping Association accredited.
