Applicants start with a short preliminary form on the site and can either ask to be matched with a trained dog or get help training their own; the organization states there are little to no costs associated with the program. It also offers voluntary Christ-centered emotional wellness support alongside the dog training, and it is a small operation, so expect wait times.

There is no application fee and no charge for the dog or the training; recipients pay only for travel to training and normal dog-ownership costs after graduation. Eligibility requires 180 days of continuous federalized active duty (or a service member permanently disabled in the line of duty) with an other-than-dishonorable discharge, and the ND Department of Veterans Affairs lists a North Dakota connection: 30 days state residency, service in a North Dakota regiment, or entering the service as a ND resident. Applications may be made through any veterans service officer.
