Integral Care 24/7 Crisis Line and Psychiatric Emergency Services

Integral Care is the local mental health authority for Travis County; its helpline answers 24 hours a day for emotional distress, suicidal thoughts and substance use, and can dispatch a mental health professional to someone in crisis (toll-free 844-398-8252; TTY 512-703-1395). Psychiatric Emergency Services at 1165 Airport Blvd, in the Richard E. Hopkins Behavioral Health Building, second floor, is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for walk-ins, and no VA enrollment or referral is needed. Integral Care states crisis services are available regardless of ability to pay, but this is not a free clinic — it runs a sliding fee scale, bills Medicaid, Medicare and private insurance, charges co-pays, and offers charity care to people who cannot pay.

Operating since March 2015 in the 478th District Court, this is a supervised treatment alternative for veterans and service members — including active duty, reservists and National Guard members — charged in Bell County, aimed at getting participants back on track and preventing repeat offenses. Download the county's Veterans Treatment Court application from this page; an intake interview is scheduled once it is submitted, the specialty court team reviews it, and every applicant must be approved by the County Attorney's Office or the District Attorney's, so applying does not guarantee acceptance. Travis County Veterans Treatment Court

A 12- to 24-month treatment-based alternative to traditional prosecution for veterans charged in Travis County whose traumatic brain injury, PTSD, military sexual trauma or other mental disorder resulting from military service materially affected the conduct at issue in the case. The veteran's defense attorney submits the application to the Veterans Court Program Manager, who consults the VA Veterans Justice Outreach Specialist on eligibility; participation is voluntary but requires the prosecutor's consent, so a veteran cannot self-enroll — raise it with your defense lawyer at the earliest hearing. The application, VA release of information and attorney referral forms are posted on this page, but the county's own site flags the page "Expired" and it still names a judge who no longer presides, so confirm current details when you call.

Williamson County Veterans Treatment Court

Diversion and probation tracks for veterans, reservists, National Guard and active-duty service members 18 or older charged with a misdemeanor or felony in Williamson County; the pre-trial diversion track can let an eligible veteran avoid prosecution and a criminal conviction. Submit the county's application with a copy of your DD-214 or orders and a release of information to the program case manager, who routes it to the County Attorney's Office for eligibility review; the county says admission is not automatic and that attorney help preparing the application "is recommended, but not required." Honorable or general-under-honorable discharge is required, with other discharge conditions considered case by case; court is held at the Williamson County Justice Center in County Court at Law 2 on the 1st and 3rd Thursdays, with dockets at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.

Copies are released only to the veteran and other persons authorized under Government Code 552.140, who can obtain a copy or certified copy free of charge. To order a copy, send the county's DD214 application form with a copy of your photo ID by mail to Bell County Clerk's Office, Attn: Vital Records, P.O. Travis County Clerk — Recording Division (DD-214 / military discharge filing)

A Travis County veteran can record a DD-214 or discharge with the County Clerk at no charge — the clerk's own fee schedule lists Discharge/DD-214 as "No Charge" — creating a permanent local record so certified copies can be pulled later for benefits, burial, property tax exemptions and employment without going back to the National Archives. Texas Local Government Code 192.002 requires the clerk to file a military discharge without cost, and Government Code 552.140 makes a discharge recorded on or after September 1, 2003 confidential for 75 years, releasable only to the veteran and other qualified persons. Placement is not free - SDA lists a $25,000 cost covering training, team training, housing, materials, home visits and lifetime follow-up, plus a $50 fee on the full application (the preliminary application is free) - but staff help approved clients pursue fundraising, grants, scholarships and payment plans, and North Dakota veterans with a PTSD diagnosis can apply through the state DVA's service dog grant, which names SDA as its provider. Applicants must be 18 or older, live in the lower 48, cannot be on active duty, and must travel to the Jud campus for at least three weeks of team training; PTSD applicants also need a diagnosis from a licensed mental health professional and at least two years of ongoing therapy.

The fleet includes wheelchair-accessible pontoons; trips are at no cost, though multi-day trips require a $100 deposit that is returned to the veteran on the last day.

Minnesota Paralyzed Veterans of America — Adaptive Sports

The Minnesota chapter of Paralyzed Veterans of America runs a year-round adaptive sports and recreation program out of the Minneapolis VA Medical Center, including trap shooting, air rifle and pistol, archery, bocce, bowling, and scuba, plus support for veterans competing in the National Veterans Wheelchair Games and VA Winter/Summer Sports Clinics. Some benefits are member-only, but the chapter invites non-member veterans and others with disabilities to inquire about participating.

Minnesota Warriors Ice Hockey

Applicants must be honorably discharged, reside in Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, Iowa, or Wisconsin, be in ongoing mental health treatment, and attend required training in Detroit Lakes.

Eden Prairie 501(c)(3), accredited by Assistance Dogs International, that trains and places assistance dogs with veterans and first responders who have service-related PTSD; applicants must live in Minnesota or a bordering state, be ages 24-70, and have an honorable or general discharge. The dog carries no purchase price, but recipients pay a $100 application fee plus a $300 equipment fee and cover ongoing veterinary care (the site estimates upwards of $1,000 per year), with waits running several months to two years.
