Property tax relief

Veterans' property tax exemption

Who qualifies
Bona fide Nevada residents whose service meets a wartime or campaign category in NRS 361.090, with an honorable discharge or satisfactory-service certificate, or who are still serving. The listed-date route requires 90 continuous active-duty days; the qualifying campaign-medal route has no minimum number of days.
What you get
Exempts $3,640 of assessed value for fiscal year 2026 to 2027.
How to apply
File the affidavit with the county assessor. Real-property claims are generally due June 15; an initial claim for property acquired after June 15 and before July 1 is due July 5.

Disabled veteran and surviving spouse exemption

Who qualifies
Honorably discharged bona fide Nevada residents with a permanent service-connected disability of at least 60%. A surviving spouse must have lived with and been married to the veteran for the five years before death, remain unmarried, reside in Nevada, and meet the veteran-eligibility condition.
What you get
For fiscal year 2026 to 2027, exempts $18,200 of assessed value for a 60% to 79% disability, $27,300 for 80% to 99%, or $36,400 for total permanent disability.
How to apply
File the affidavit and disability evidence with the county assessor. The real-property filing deadline is generally June 15.

Education and tuition

Purple Heart Fee Waiver

Who qualifies
Veterans awarded the Purple Heart. Children may qualify if the veteran is or was a Nevada resident at death and the child graduated from a Nevada high school.
What you get
Waives registration, laboratory and other mandatory fees after applicable federal education benefits. Students are treated as Nevada residents for tuition purposes.
How to apply
Submit the NSHE Purple Heart Fee Waiver form to the appropriate campus office.

POW and MIA family fee waiver

Who qualifies
Spouses and children of service members identified as POW or MIA while performing military duties. Recipients must maintain at least a 2.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale or equivalent.
What you get
May waive registration and laboratory fees and provide resident tuition status. Spouses have ten years after POW/MIA identification. Children have ten years after turning 18, or after earlier enrollment.
How to apply
Provide the documentation the Board of Regents requests to verify the relationship and POW/MIA status.

Nevada National Guard fee waiver

Who qualifies
Active Nevada National Guard members, including recruits, in good standing throughout the semester. Recipients must maintain a 2.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale or equivalent.
What you get
May waive registration and laboratory fees for full-time or part-time NSHE study.

Who qualifies
Veterans, specified surviving spouses and Nevada National Guard members with a commanding officer's recommendation.
What you get
Preference in eligible-applicant pools. Qualified veterans with service-connected disabilities must be interviewed for covered classified positions.

Who qualifies
Bona fide Nevada residents discharged from the U.S. Armed Forces other than dishonorably.
What you get
A free annual permit for entry to every Nevada state park and recreation area.
