The life of a military spouse is undeniably challenging. Being away from your partner for months or years at a time, assuming the role of a single parent, trying to balance a career while moving so often. All these realities of military life can take their toll.
30% of military spouses have a 4-year degree.
80% of military spouses have attempted to go to college.
U.S. Marine Corps Veteran, Erik Therwanger, and his wife Gina, started the “Think Great Foundation” in 2019 to give back to our silent heroes at home, military spouses. The foundation awards scholarships for spouses.
Military spouses sacrifice so much, including their education goals. We wanted to offer a way to thank them for all they do by helping to make an impact in their tuition.
Seeing firsthand the challenges faced by life in the military and the sacrifices made by military spouses, Erik knew it was time to help these courageous patriots to get back on track with their education and career goals. In the first year, Think GREAT awarded $25,000 in scholarships and this year’s goal is to award $100,000!

Thanks to the amazing support of our sponsors, Think GREAT Foundation has successfully awarded almost $100,000 in scholarships. Without them, scholarships would not be possible.
As a way to gain awareness of the foundation, raise money, and most importantly, award scholarships, Think Great Foundation hosts an annual Homefront Heroes Gala where we celebrate the efforts in supporting our military spouses, the unsung heroes. This year’s event is Friday, November 17th at Brackett’s Crossing, Lakeville, MN.
In 2022, Angela Cox, a 24-year Navy Spouse, decided it was time to invest in herself and go back to college. Her husband’s time in the Navy had come to an end, their kids were grown, and they were officially empty nesters! However, at 49 years old, figuring out college and funding it wasn’t an easy feat! With the help of the Think Great Foundation, Angela was awarded a $1,500 scholarship!
I was so surprised to learn about The Think Great Foundation because I had never heard of anything like it before for military spouses. Applying for the scholarship and receiving it gave me a confidence boost that I needed in going back to school as well as helping with the financials. After learning about The Think Great Foundation, it was the deciding factor in continuing my education. I am so thankful for this foundation and its efforts to support military spouses.
