Fort Rucker at a glance

Fort Rucker is the Army aviation training installation in southeastern Alabama. The Aviation Center of Excellence develops aviation soldiers and leaders while shaping the Army's future aviation force. Its publicly stated mission connects aviation expertise with combined arms maneuver and operations across multiple domains. The post is therefore both an educational center and an institutional home for Army aviation development.

The installation is in Dale County, northwest of Dothan, with Enterprise, Daleville and Ozark forming its immediate surrounding communities. It returned to the Fort Rucker name in June 2025 in honor of Captain Edward F. Rucker, a World War I aviator awarded the Distinguished Service Cross. The current name and the former Fort Novosel label refer to the same installation, rather than to different Alabama aviation posts.
