LockLeed and Anderson Trucking Service (ATS) announce a new partnership to bring more veterans to ATS in a variety of roles. “LockLeed has a vast network of veterans that allows us to work with candidates we may not have been able to reach otherwise. Our partnership is about connecting with the right people and helping our former military service members find civilian jobs,” said Larry Gordon, senior talent acquisition specialist.

ATS has a long history of hiring veterans, starting with its founder, Harold Anderson, who served as a Captain in the US Air Force. His son, Rollie, was also a US Air Force Captain and leads the company alongside his son Brent. Honoring military service has always been important at ATS, where a display of Harold’s military memorabilia stands at ATS headquarters.

Rich Asmus, US Marine Corps veteran and vice president of maintenance, used LockLeed to hire veterans while working for a different organization and brought the connection to ATS. Because of the trust they’ve built, and their success with hiring LockLeed candidates, ATS plans to work closely with them to fill positions across the company from diesel mechanics to sales to customer service and other support teams.

Transportation and logistics are vital to America’s infrastructure and the skills gained in the military are highly desired by company leaders in these industries, ATS included. LockLeed’s goal is to connect companies with qualified candidates who have the experience needed in key areas.

Dan Ascher, USMC veteran and ATS lead talent acquisition specialist, said, “We have been partnering with LockLeed to find qualified talent to help fill open positions. It started as a connection to bring in mechanics and has now expanded to include various positions that we hire for in other areas of the business. LockLeed’s partnership with ATS helps us fulfill our hiring needs while assisting veterans with their transition into civilian life.”

It's important to ATS to give candidates a realistic and transparent view of the company and the industry including the potential challenges and rewards. That’s why ATS hosts a blog on their website, a YouTube channel and a podcast featuring articles and videos that provide all job seekers with career advice. Several articles highlight the transition from military work to a civilian job and ways veterans can use their unique skills to be successful in the workplace. This is a valuable resource for veterans who are considering becoming part of the ATS family.

The benefits of hiring veterans include bringing military training and characteristics to the workplace. Every candidate has unique gifts, but those with military service backgrounds bring a consistent level of discipline, focus, professionalism and determination that meld perfectly with the ATS company values.

Cassidy Swanson, part of the marketing team, said, “We recognize that leaving the military and taking a civilian job can be difficult. We help them understand how to use their skills in a civilian job. At ATS, we provide the support they need to succeed in their roles, and we accommodate ongoing military service.”

ATS has a robust internal training program to help employees achieve goals and develop more confidence in their ability to be successful in their role and in the industry. They also offer diesel mechanic internships for people who may not have experience as a mechanic but enjoy hands-on work and have a knack for it. A recent decision to partner with Skillbridge will bring more military candidates into the company.

Larry said, “Most military members have a number of great skills in teamwork, leadership and attention to detail, along with having training across multiple areas. A lot of time if we think someone is a culture fit, we know we can work to train them internally to be successful and become part of the ATS team.”
